Cone Beam Ct in Occlusal Caries Research

چکیده
Background: During the past few decades, changes have been observed not only in the prevalence of dental caries, but also in the distribution and pattern of the disease in the population. Most conventional radiographic imaging of teeth underestimates the presence of caries. Cone-beam CT is a new technology which can provide volumetric data of the object, from which cross-sectional images can be obtained for different diagnostic purposes. It is assumed that these features would improve the accuracy in diagnosing dental diseases, including dental caries. Objective: To compare the accuracy of Cone beam CT with intraoral radiographs for detection of occlusal caries. Materials and methods: A set of sixty extracted teeth were mounted on a mandible, surrounded by a plexiglass box. These teeth were imaged using a Sirona Cone beam CT unit and intraoral radiographs (Planmeca). Six observers used both modalities and a 5 point Confidence scale to evaluate presence of occlusal caries in all the sixty surfaces. The actual presence or absence of caries was established with histology. Receiver operating characteristic analysis and weighted kappa statistics were used. Differences in Az values

Comparison of Cone Beam Computerized Tomography and Phosphor Storage Plate in Detecting Artificial Buccal Recurrent Caries
Introduction Recurrent or secondary caries develops at the margin of restorations and causes restorative failure. We conducted this study to compare the performance of Phosphor Storage Plate (PSP) and Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) scan in detecting buccal recurrent caries under amalgam and composite resin restorations. Materials and Methods Class V cavities were prepared on the buccal...

OBJECTIVE To determine whether micro-computed tomography (micro-CT) could be used to reconstruct ancient dental anatomy accurately and differentiate the enamel from the dentin, as well as to verify whether micro-CT could detect tooth disorders such as attrition or caries accurately. METHODS Micro-CT imaging was performed, using a cone-beam micro-CT specimen scanner, on a 500-year-old human to...
متن کاملCone Beam CT Evaluation of the Bony Changes in the Temporomandibular Joint and the Association with the Clinical Symptoms of Temporomandibular Joint Disorders
Introduction: Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders are among the most prevalent abnormalities of the jaw, which affect the masticatory system, including the muscles, TMJ, and tendons. Clinical examination alone cannot determine the cause of temporomandibular disorder (TMD). In most cases, the cause of TMD and a proper treatment plan are determined based on imaging modalities. The present stu...

temporomandibular disorders (TMD), because of its reversibility. The present study analyzed the effect of the articular disc position and occlusal splints use on the stress distribution on this disc. A two-dimensional (2D) finite element (FE) model of the temporomandibular joint with the articular disc at its physiologic position was constructed based on cone-beam computed tomography. Three oth...
متن کاملDiagnostic accuracy of cone-beam computed tomography in detecting secondary caries under composite fillings: an in vitro study
PURPOSE The aim of this in vitro study was to assess the diagnostic performance of cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) in the detection of secondary carious lesions under composite resin fillings applied to different types of cavities. MATERIALS AND METHODS Occlusal cavities (O) (n=18), occlusal cavities with mesial or distal component (MO/DO) (n=30), and mesial-occlusal-distal cavities (MOD...
